MEMBERS' PORTAL

This page includes a variety of topics of general interest to members.

Water Footprint of the Internet

As a relevant followup to Stephen Leahy's October 5 presentation on our Water Footprints, you may be interested in the BBC estimate of your water consumption in just reading this website.  See the BBC article here.

Thanks to Ivor Mansell for bringing this to our attention.

Where to Report and Access Assistance
for Situations of Financial Abuse
At the Club's August meeting, Detective Constable Nichols observed that most of his time is spent investigating instances of financial abuse of elders.  He left copies of a summary of relevant contacts prepared by Elder Abuse Ontario.  This contact list is reproduced here.

Introducing Guests

When you plan to bring a guest to a meeting, please register him at the Membership desk so he can be introduced.  Also, for prospective new members, please ensure that the Membership Chairman has his name, email and 'phone number before leaving the meeting.

Safe E-Mailing Practices

You may have noticed that our general emails are sent out as blind copies.  This has been our standard practice since we started the email program.

Probus Centre Canada published a document (click here) that supports this philosophy.

Volunteers

The operation of our Club relies completely on the time, talents and energy shared by volunteer members. We have no paid staff. Our volunteer program is getting the right person in the right job, with the right skills at the right time.  At the same time, volunteers can make new friends and have fun. And yes, the member might gain some knowledge and experience!

There are lots of opportunities.  -   the Speaker Committee, the Special Events Committee, several internal special interest club groups, managing the identification badges,

and, the most critical, The Management Committee
